Welcome to Newford House on the Channel Island of Alderney
3 miles long by 1 1/2 miles wide and with an area of 3 square miles, Alderney is the third largest and most northerly of the eight occupied Channel Islands. Being only 8 miles from France and 60 miles from the south coast of England it is the closest to both of those countries.
Nearly all of the island's property records were destroyed by the occupying German forces during the Second World War but the disused well in the garden shed is clearly dated 1835 and it is believed that the house was built some time in the previous 50 years. With exterior walls two feet thick the solidity of the structure was clear to see but decades of neglect ensured that every part of the interior of the house and the whole garden needed a complete overhaul.
Bought in the summer of 2004 by Phil Clabburn and Boris and Kate Porter, whose frequent visits to the island had led to a desire to have a more substantial attachment there, this 4-storey Georgian house in the heart of the island's main town of St Anne has been substantially restored throughout and is now available for long-term, short-term or holiday lets throughout the year.Whatever the reason for your visit Newford House, with a capacity for up to twelve people, is the perfect base from which to enjoy your stay on Alderney.
